Hi @Hemlata,

If you disagree with the amended tax return, you can lodge an objection with us.

When lodging your objection, you'll need to:

  • include all supporting documents that prove you didn't receive the income
  • provide your bank statements showing no deposits from that employer
  • attach court documents about the wage recovery case
  • explain that the income was received in a different financial year (when you actually got paid through the court process).

Once we've got all your supporting evidence, we'll review your case. If the company is in liquidation, you may also want to speak with the liquidator, as they may have access to the company's financial records that could support your case.

I already gave ATO court documents, and bank statement and explained I got paid in this financial year but they still made me pay it and when I called them over phone to ask since I receive a message saying after that this -

We recently contacted you regarding an error in your 2025 tax return. We have now received new information that explains or removes any error in

your income tax return.

What happens now

We will not make any changes to vour 2025 tax return

which I thought means they won’t be asking me to pay but then after 3 days I got another message saying assessment is done and I need to pay

and when I called twice first time I was told it’s system fault accidently issue me tax but when they connected to someone else they said no it means you need to pay so I’m confused as ATO is suppose to help and be fair. I have all prooof whatever they need but I don’t even have any case officer or anyone from ATO who can look after my case and let me talk to them to explain so please help me with this if some Case officer can check my case again I already objected but nothing happen so I objected 2nd time now please connect me to case officer to someone who can help me thanks

Hi @Hemlata,

If you’ve already lodged an objection and you disagree with the outcome. The next step is to pursue an external review of the decision

The objection decision, and the reasons for that decision, will usually be provided to you in writing. If you didn't receive a written decision or you're not satisfied with the reasons, you should contact your case officer and ask for a copy.

@RachelATO

How can I contact my case officer? I asked someone to connect with them but they said it’s not possible

Hi @Hemlata,

You can call our individual enquiries line and ask them to escalate your concerns to the case officer.

Alternatively, you could lodge and complaint and explain the situation. We'll handle your complaint independently. It will be assigned to a complaint resolver team that have not been involved in decisions about your issue.

But as mentioned previously, If you’ve already lodged an objection and received an outcome. The next step is to pursue an external review of the decision
