Hi, hoping someone can help with a myID issue. I'm an Australian citizen and former RAAF veteran living in Bulgaria. I've been outside Australia since 2017. I need to strengthen my myID from Basic to Standard level to access myGov for a DVA compensation claim. The problem is the only document I have available is my current Australian passport. My driver's licence has expired after nine years abroad, I don't hold a Medicare card, and most of my documents were lost when the building storing them in Kyiv, Ukraine was destroyed during the ongoing war. The myID app verified my passport but won't upgrade past Basic level without a second document. Is there any alternative pathway to Standard level for an overseas Australian in this situation? Any help greatly appreciated.

Is there any alternative pathway to Standard level for an overseas Australian in this situation?

  • I think the only way is to verify identity documents. Any other ways, I think would defeat the purpose of MyID

A copy of your birth certificate or citizenship certificate? remember you don't need the original as you are entering the details on the app. I think this would be your only option for the 2nd document since they shouldn't expire

List of documents

"passport (an Australian passport, either current or no more than 3 years expired)

drivers licence or learner’s permit

birth certificate

visa (using your foreign passport)

ImmiCard

citizenship certificate

Medicare card (this option appears after you verify one of the above documents). "
