Hello,

I created a MyGov account and tried to link ATO to it.

I tried to use MyID but it’s not useful because I can just have a « basic » account as I don’t have an Australian passport, nor an Australian driving licence, nor Medicare.

So I tried the other solutions and I’m stuck because my banking account number are not the good one for them. I don’t understand that because I have just one account.

So I tried to call them to have a linking code but I’m stuck again because I don’t have an Australian passport, nor an Australian driving licence, nor Medicare.

They told me to fill the form « Change of details for individuals » but I don’t understand why because I can’t update my banking account numbers on it.

I’ll leave Australia in 2 weeks so I need urgently to solve it.

I was working as an employee but also as an independant contractor, so I really need to do my tax returns.

Can you help me to solve this please ? What can I do to access to my ATO account ?

Is there another way to do my tax return without using an online tool ?

thanks !

MyID isn’t required to access ATO Online (ATOO). It is required for some services, but not for ATOO.

You will need to call the ATO to obtain a linking code, and you’ll be asked to provide an identity document. An Australian driver licence, Medicare card, or Australian passport are common examples. They can also use your visa or French passport.

It sounds like you didn’t have a great experience when you called. Try again and let them know about your passport and that you want a linking code.

Online is the easiest way to lodge, but you can also hire a tax agent to lodge for you, or lodge a paper return.

Do you intend to lodge your 2026 tax return early?
