I have just settled my rental property? Do I need to inform ATO immediately, or is it ok to wait till the tax return? How do I inform the ATO if I need to inform them immediately? thanks

You inform the ATO on your tax return for the year in which the property was sold. (contract date is sale date).

Thank you very much!
Through data matching with other Government agencies the ATO receives information on property transfers and sales.
They will probably receive notification of the sale through this process.
