I'm currently on a Bridging Visa A having submitted an application for an 804 Aged Parent Visa. As I'm on a Bridging visa I've been informed via HMRC UK that I would still continue to be taxed on my pension in the UK as I'm classed as been on a temporary visa. However, as soon as I gain permanent residency I'll be liable for tax in Australia. If I work in Australia now I'll be taxed on any earnings even though I'm on a Bridging Visa.
Information from HMRC UK.
Holders of Australian Temporary Resident Visas -
important change from 1 July 2006
From 1 July 2006 Australia changed its law to exempt from Australian tax, with the exception of income from employment, the non-Australian income of individuals who
are temporary residents of Australia.
Article 23(2) of the 2003 Convention between the UK and Australia provides that where an individual is exempt from tax. This means that if you hold a Temporary Resident Visa, you
are liable to UK Income Tax on your UK State Pension.
