I was entered into the PAYG system and have 2 notices from ATO stating that I have an overdue bill due to anticipated/predicted bank interest earnings. I contacted the ATO and they stated that they could remove me from the PAYG system for this FY, and that I did not have to pay the bill. Is this correct?

Check your ATO account via mygov? You should be able to confirm if they did what they said they did i.e. no amounts owing and no longer need to lodge PAYG instalments (activity statements)
