Hi,

I've been living abroad for over 20 years and want to return. I have no record of my TFN. How can I best get this so I can check my tax supe and HECS status?

Heya @ozziedave100,

How exciting, we can't wait to welcome you back to Australia.

There are a few options you can choose from when it comes to Finding your TFN. Have a read through our article for more info and steps for each option.

Hi

thanks for the post. Unfortunately none of the suggestions in the article apply to me.

I have no records of previous tax business with the ATO.

Is it best to phone or email the ATO and if so can I do it from the UK without it costing an arm and a leg?

Hi @ozziedave100

You can call but this may not be your best option. Because you've been away so long there is a good chance all of your details we have are out of date. This will make it hard to get through our security questions to verify you.

The best option is to reapply for your tax file number. You will get the same one issued out to you by post and the form will update all the details we have on record for you.
