Can I claim for parking at the hospital as I am my wife’s carer and visit her at hospital every day
They may be wondering if it can be offset against their income from the Carer payment if both are over aged pension age

Claim off what assessable income?
Allowable tax deductions are those costs you incur to earn your assessable income.
There are a few tax deductions that can be claimed which are not related to earning your assessable income (e.g. donations) but parking isn't one of them.

Hi @SandDkennedy,
No, these costs are generally not deductible.
Parking at the hospital while visiting your wife is considered a private expense.
To be deductible, an expense must be directly related to earning your income. Visiting or caring for a family member (even regularly), isn’t considered income‑producing activity.
Even if you receive a carer payment or similar income, these types of payments don’t make related personal expenses deductible.
So parking, travel, and similar costs in this situation would not be claimable.
