RandoTaxKid(I'm new)I'm new
1 June 2026

I have an existing payment plan in place for my 23-24 tax return debt, which is down to around $3,000 and ends in a few months.

My tax agent recently completed my 24-25 tax return which calculated another debt of around $10,000. I transferred the $3,000 balance of the 23-24 payment plan to hopefully complete and end that payment plan with the intention of then setting up another payment plan for the 24-25 debt.

Unfortunately, my payment took a couple of days to be processed and in that time my tax agent lodged my 24-25 return. Now my payment plan is still active and has a balance of $10,000 (the 24-25 debt - the 23-24 debt payment was received and processed but it didn't end the payment plan). The plan is still ending on the original payment plan end date which obviously won't be long enough to cover the whole new debt. Updating the plan through self-service doesn't work. I have received a message reminding me to pay this debt in full by the 5th of June.

Do I need to call up to finalise the original payment plan and set up a new one? Or am I able to cancel the existing one and set up a new one through online self-service? I know in the past the system has not liked it when I have cancelled a payment plan and I've then had trouble setting up a new one and had to call.
