I accessed my super early for surgery after massive weight loss. I have received the funds however am cancelling my surgery with this particular surgeon as he made me feel incredibly uncomfortable and self conscious during one of our consultations. Am i able to save this money for when i find a new surgeon to perform the surgery? Not sure how long itll be until i do book in a new surgeon as i am an extremely sensitive person when it comes to comments on my physical appearence and need to find the right surgeon when im ready. Thank you

Hi @Oz80,

Yes, you can keep the funds you’ve received and use them when you feel ready to proceed with your treatment. Your approval isn’t tied to a specific provider or timeframe, so you can take the time you need to feel comfortable.

There are some important conditions to be aware of.

  • You must use the released super funds for the medical treatment that was approved in your application.
  • When you do proceed, make sure you keep all invoices, receipts and payment records. We may ask you to provide evidence that the funds were used for the purpose they were approved for.

If your plans change and the funds aren’t used for the approved treatment, there may be some follow-up actions to consider. For example, you might need to re-contribute the amount to your super fund or apply again based on your updated circumstances.

If you have specific questions about your approval or circumstances, you can contact our super team.

I hope everything goes well with finding the right provider.
