Hi,

I started doing Uber Eats in 2023 and I’m still doing it now. I am GST‑registered because Uber required me to register at the time. I only do Uber Eats, and my annual turnover is less than $25,000. I also have a day job that pays me around $70,000 per year.

Here are my questions:

  1. I'm filing my Bas quarterly(it is the default when I started). Based on what I have read I am not required to file quarterly Can I file it annually? If so, can i get all the money I paid ATO from filing my bas quarterly?
  2. Do I need to cancel my GST? If yes, how can I cancel it?
  3. If I will just include my Uber eats earning in my Individual tax return every year. Can I claim fuel deduction?
  4. I just bought a car and 50% of it I'm using it for UberEats, Can i claim that deduction on my Individual annual tax return?

Thank you in advance!

Information on annual GST reporting below. Can only be changed between the beginning of a financial year and the 28th of October.

Annual GST reporting | Australian Taxation Office

If your business income is below the GST turnover threshold ($75,000) and your sole business is as an Uber Eats driver then there is no need to be registered for GST.

As an Uber Eats driver if you have motor vehicle expenses you can claim these as a tax deduction.

To claim the cost of a car you need to keep a logbook to establish your percentage of use for business purposes. The car itself must be depreciated.
