Hi everyone. I'm on a DSP and have no other income. Just wondering if anyone knows if I will get back any of the $2,200 tax taken from my super hardship claim?

No doubt all of it. You will need to lodge a tax return for it to be refunded.

DSP (for those under age 67) is tax free. No other income apart from the super lump sum payment. If super lump sum under $22570 ($10,000 was it?) then all the tax withheld will be refunded.

Yes it was 10K for the hardship claim. Thanks so much for your reply on my post. Really appreciate it. I'm a single person trying to pay a mortgage (and all that comes with that) since going onto a DSP due to long term sudden illness 6 months ago. I'm seriously struggling financially so was hoping that I would get at least a little of that tax money back. Thanks again!

Hi @Mishka,

We can't provide any guarantees on the outcome of a return. What @TaxDuck said is right if there aren't any other factors in your return. The disability support pension is not taxable if you're below pension age. So if you're only income for the year is $10,000 you are under the tax free threshold.

Hi, thanks for your reply. No there aren't any other factors in my return, and yes i'm under pension age and the 10K is my only income for the year. Thanks for the information. Appreciate it :)
