Can an ATO moderator please confirm whether units in Vanguard S&P 500 US Shares Index ETF (ASX: V500) are considered taxable Australian property for a temporary resident?
The reason I am seeking a specific yes/no answer is that I have not been able to find any ATO guidance that directly discusses the CGT treatment of V500 for temporary residents(SCV 444).
My uncertainty is that V500 is listed on the ASX and is an Australian-domiciled ETF, even though it invests in US shares. I am unsure whether a capital gain from selling V500 units would be treated as taxable Australian property simply because the ETF is listed in Australia.
If possible, I would appreciate an ATO Certified Response, as this would help me better understand my tax obligations and make an informed investment decision with more confidence.
Thank you for your assistance.
