Hi There,

In 2012 I was here on a working holiday visa and must have had a TFN as was employed for 1.5 months to fund the rest of my trip.

I now have a permanent visa and returned. But I dont have access to the old email address where I might have my old TFN record, payslips etc. I dont recall my address either as it was 2012.

I have called the ATO twice and get to the end of the menu and then told all operators are busy so i cant speak to anyone. I am unsure how to recover my TFN as I understand you cant get a new even though its 14 years since I previously left? But as it seems the phone number cuts out if they are to busy unsure if I just keep trying until I get lucky or if there is another way to find my TFN?

Many thanks,

Digby

If nothing else works, you can always apply for TFN again. One of the questions is something along the lines of 'did you previously have a TFN'

Provide as much details as you can

Hi @DigbyS,

That's right, you won't get a new TFN because your original one from 2012 stays with you for life.

We've got some suggestions to find your lost TFN in our article. If you still can't find it, you can complete our TFN enquiry form.

When you haven't worked or lodged a tax return for many years, we have limited information on record to verify your identity over the phone, which is why officers may not be able to assist and provide your TFN.
