I separated from my partner and was paid a lump sum of $40K to my super as part of the settlement. As a single mother with an [Removed by moderator] background, can I access the $40K to use as a deposit for my first home?

Hi @Gretel,

When it comes to accessing superannuation. There are a few conditions you need to meet for release of super depending on your circumstances.

We have a great page for when you can access super early you may find helpful.

Hi @Gretel

We’ve revisited this and just wanting to add on more info in case it’s what you meant. If you’re wanting to know if the 40K is an eligible contribution for the FHSS scheme, that depends.

If the lump sum payment is from your divorce settlement and you’ve decided to put it to your superfund, then it’s what we call a voluntary contribution and eligible for FHSS. However, if the payment is from a super split, then it’s not.

The link I've given takes you to our website where you can read more about the FHSS scheme. Let us know if you have further questions about it.
