I migrated from Sri Lanka and started my first tax job recently in Adelaide. I noticed in my pay-slips that i have been deducted very high tax payments. When i inquired about it to the payroll team they sent me and asked me to fill the TFN declaration form. I was not aware of it initially neither did anyone mention about it or asked me to do it before start working. They only asked for my TFN number which i provided. However I did fill all my details including my TFN number in my employee detail as requested before starting work.

what am I suppose to do in this kind of situation?

Hi @Ramla98,

Now that you've provided your employer with your withholding declaration has the amount of tax that's being withheld changed.

You could consider discussing it with your employer but there isn't really anything that you can do. On the bright side when you lodge your tax return you may be entitled to a refund.

If you have too much tax withheld generally, you'll receive a refund from us. If you don't have enough tax withheld this means you may end up owing money to us.
