My husband receives a phone allowance in addition to his salary. The phone is predominantly used for work purposes can he still claim a deduction for the cost of the plan?

Hi cspmanager,

Generally, no as this is what the phone allowance is for.

However, if the cost of the plan is greater than the phone allowance provided to your husband. Then he can look at claiming above the phone allowance amount if eligible. Otherwise, you would be double dipping.

To claim a deduction your husband must incur the cost, have record of expenses and claim only proportion related to work.
