I was wondering: if someone ( and their family)picks up cans along the road when they see them , picks out cans/ bottles etc from bins etc as and when they come across them, and has family members that give them their used cans etc,then recycles them for cash vouchers ( along with drink containers they have themselves bought)...is it reportable income? One would think it's of a benefit to the community and "planet" anyway, and it's terrible seeing these items in with normal rubbish if they are worth 10cents each.
If it is reportable income, you'd probably then conclude that the expenses incurred in getting that $ ( eg fuel) would be able to be claimed as a deduction wouldn't you? As an example of $$ involved , I'm asking about something like maybe between 40 and 80$ a month....also it couldn't be considered a full time job 'cos the person involved would have an (almost) full time job. Thoughts? Comments appreciated.
