Question 1:

I purchased ETFs on vanguard for my kids who are all under 10. Each purchase is under $400. They were put under the kids names but my TFN was used as the parent. Do they need to be entered in my tax return under managed funds section? and if so, is there anything I would need to enter under capital gain and losses.

FYI - I have not sold any of their ETFs

Question 2:

I purchased a vanguard ETF, I haven’t sold it. When entering into my tax return, I enter all the details into from the statement into the managed funds section, do I need to enter any information into the capital gains and loss section?

Hello there @Zeuslsh,

You will not have any capital gains to report unless you sell the shares. ETFs are considered dividends. You would need to report any income received from them even if it's reinvested.

You'll need statements from Vanguard showing any distributions or dividends paid to you. We may even pre-fill this on your return.

Info on how to enter this on your tax return can be found on our Mytax 2023 Dividends webpage.

If you haven't gotten any distributions or dividends yet, there is nothing to report.
