I'm assisting a family member to renew his ABN. The online application form says "You must provide either a mobile phone number or email".


But when I put his email address in and try to go the next page I get an error message saying "You must provide at least one contact number".


These two messages contradict each other.


My family member doesn't have a phone just the internet on his computer.


Can you advise me how we can renew his ABN?

Hi @Pimelia


It is not a requirement to enter a phone number in the Business Information section of the ABR.


You will need to ensure the emails match and the "Same as service of notice email" is selected.

Making sure that you have not clicked any of the boxes under the telephone section. You will need to clear section if you have as it will then require you to enter a contact number.


If you are still receiving the error you will need to go back through the application and make sure all the details are correct.

Thanks for your reply Chantelle,


The section I'm referring is the Authorised Contact 1 details, which is part of Step 3.


Under the heading 'Contact phone numbers' the instructions say:


">If a mobile phone number is to be inserted as the business or after-hours number then the number is to be split into two sections one of 4 digits and the other of 6 digits."


!You must provide either mobile phone number or email".


Under these instructions there's spaces for Business, After Hours and facsimile and Mobile numbers and for an email address.


Between the spaces for the phone numbers and space for the email address a there's now a message that "One of the following must be provided, either the Business Hours, After hours or Mobile phone number."


I'm not sure if this came up after I'd entered an email address and tried to go to the next screen or if it was always there. Whatever, it is not possible to proceed to the next screen.


I'm wondering if the problem is because my family member's email address ends as @fedora.email. I understand that this is a small email service run by an individual.
