Hi @Emma1999
When you earn personal services income (PSI), you are treated as though you are in the same position as an employee.
This means your business may claim deductions against PSI received, if:
- the expenses are incurred in producing the income
- you (as an individual who earns the income) would be entitled to the deduction.
Deductions that can't be claimed against PSI include:
- rent, mortgage interest, rates and land tax
- payments to associates for non-principal work
- super contributions for associates for non-principal work.
Refer to Claiming deductions when receiving PSI for more information.
To access the Small business technology investment boost and skills and training boost, you must refer to the respective eligibility requirements on your ability to apply.
Receiving PSI does not affect your ability to apply the Small Business Technology Investment Boost.
However, you can’t apply the Small Business Skills and Training Boost to expenditure for:
- training of non-employee business owners such as sole traders, partners in a partnership or independent contracts
- costs added on an invoice by an intermediary on top of the cost of training, such as commissions or fees, as they are not charged directly or indirectly by the registered training provider.
