I work from home. I can claim occupancy expenses. Regarding that, what does “water rates” mean?

The water bill has many components to it as below. As part of this rule, do I need to only include some parts of this below breakdown? Or overall bill can be considered? Ie. Water bill breakdown:

  • Water & Sewage Charge
  • Service Charges
  • Other authorities charges

Please note that someone else has asked this same question on this forum, but I notice the ATO has not yet answered her, 2 weeks later.

Hi @waterquery,

In general, or broad terms, water rates are defined as the charges made for the use of water from the public water supply.

Therefore, you would use the overall water bill, then apportion it accordingly.

Thanks so much for being considerate of our other community members! I will follow up.
