I just arrived in AUS from NZ on Thursday and applied for my TFN as soon as I arrived. However, I start work on Monday and am desperate for the number so I can get paid, is there anyway to fast track?
Hi @Jaimee1234
Welcome to Australia and our community page.
Don’t panic you have 28 days from when you start your new job to provide your employer with your tax file number (TFN), you just need to let them know you have applied for it, so they don’t tax you at the highest rate.
Not providing your TFN straight away does not stop your employer from paying you.
If you have not received it within 28 days, you may need to follow up with us then. We’re not able to fast track TFN application that have not passed the 28 days it may take us to process the TFN application.

What happens if the said employees disappears before the 28 days is up? We now have paid someone without knowing their TFN and can't even create a super fund to pay his super. Assuming this person is not reachable.
