I was advised of successful employment with an employer and my start date on payslip shows as 1/06/2023.

At this time I completed onboarding paperwork including my TFN.

There were delays with them being able to commence with an induction so the first training shift I worked was 5 October, the week prior to this I confirmed my TFN in a text message as requested by a manager.

The first pay slip received on 9/10 for payday 11/10 showed TFN not provided and 47% tax withheld. On 10/10 I handed a manager a Withholding declaration form to ensure they had the correct number and ensure tax free threshold was applied.

I worked an additional two shifts on 10th and 11th. The payslip provided to me on 16/10 still has not added my TFN and has withheld 47% tax.

How long is reasonable for an employer to not update my TFN and apply the correct tax rate after being provided with the details on 3 seperate occasions?

Hi @Bear1188,

That does seem a bit strange.

Usually, it's the employer that is trying to make sure your TFN and everything is in their payroll correctly. Not the other way around.

When you start with a new employer. You have 28 days to provide them your TFN before they start withholding at the higher tax rate. If you have completed all the forms with your TFN. There should be no reason why they haven't updated it.

Have a chat to them again and remind them you have provided your TFN. If they push back or are not really co-operative. You could reach out to the fair work ombudsman for more guidance.
