For a UK tax resident who has moved to Australia and become an Australian tax resident more than 6 months after arriving, is the foreign exchange rate to use in the AFE calculation arising from the transfer of UK defined contribution pensions (which had no contributions to them after becoming Australian tax resident) to a SMSF, the exchange rate at the time of the transfer of the funds as noted in ATO ID 2015/7, meaning that exchange gains or losses during the time of being Australian tax resident and transferring the funds is not intended to be part of AFE?
If I find 3 years after the tax has been paid that my SMSF tax on AFE associated with transferring UK pensions to a SMSF has been wrongly calculated, do I need to pay the additional tax and, conversely, can I get a refund if I have overpaid tax?
