I am writing to seek clarification and guidance regarding my eligibility to deduct car expenses from my taxes in my current role as a childcare educator working via an agency.
As my job requires daily travel to various childcare centres, I am uncertain about the extent to which these expenses are deductible, especially given that I do not have a regular place of work.
Here's a brief overview of my situation:
- I am currently employed as a childcare educator via an agency;
- My daily responsibilities involve traveling to different childcare centres from home where I provide childcare services.
- I do not have a fixed or regular place of work, as my assignments vary from one location to another.
- I use my personal vehicle for commuting to these childcare centres.
I am interested in understanding: Whether the childcare centres I visit on a daily basis can be considered alternative work locations for tax deduction purposes.
This is what I found on the ATO website (source):
“home to an alternative place of work that isn't a regular place of work to perform your duties, and then to your regular place of work or directly home (this doesn't apply if the alternative place of work has become a regular workplace).”
Thank you
