I'm trying to do my tax return on the ATO mygov site and and step 2 is asking for financial institution details.

Account name

BSB

Account number

I have the BSB and Account number, but i'm confused by what the ATO considers as Account name.

Is it my first name and last name? first, middle and last? or something else.

In my banking app on my phone, the account name is a type of bank account (it says the banks name and the type of account, my name is under account details, not account name).

I don't want to put in the wrong details and have the ATO chase me up for giving false/incorrect information.

Hi @Neuropa,

Yes, this step is very important if you are expecting a refund.

When you are putting in your bank details. We need to know the account name for who holds the bank account.

Generally, this would be the name your account was opened in. If it's not a joint account held jointly with anyone else, it would be your name. If you are unsure, you can check your bank card or a letter from your bank. This will show how they have your name on the bank account.
