If a client wholly rents out their only property for less than 6 years consecutively the main residence exemption can still apply.

What if they rent out part of their home and also their main residence? does the 6 year rule apply or are they using their home to produce income?

In theory if i wholly rent my only property out, I'm using it to produce income, but it is trumped by the 6 year rule.

Can someone clarify if the main residence exemption can still apply if part of a home is rented?

6 year rule does not apply to partial use of the property for income.
