I've been unable to find an answer on the website or searching in the community, so I'm hoping someone can help.

I have held an ABN as a Sole Trader for several years for a small business. It doesn't turn a profit. I lost my full-time job and have been working one day a week at a market stall, who have requested an ABN from me. I would also like to seek work as a Contractor. It's unclear if I can use my existing ABN for this, but I'm unable to obtain a second one. I'll be contracting as myself, not the business.

Is it OK for me to use my business ABN for my other work?

Hello @Altotude,

When you have a sole trader ABN, then that ABN represents you. If you run a business and also want to be a contractor under that ABN you can definitely do that. The main thing is that you will need to keep track of the relevant records for each individual type of income you earn under the ABN. This will make it easier when it comes to tax time and also when lodging any BAS that you are registered for.
