I have been told by lease company that sole traders cannot get novated leases is this true or these companies cannot be bothered to do the extra work

If you're a sole trader, you can't pay yourself a salary or wage, so you can't get a novated lease.
A novated lease is where an employer pays the lease for you by deducting the amount from your salary or wage.
