Hi Team, I am planning to start a marketplace website that will allow sellers from overseas and from the local Australian market to post their items on our website. When some of them will sell an item, I will receive the money and will deduct a small percentage as a service fee and the rest will be transferred to the seller, and the seller will post the item directly to the buyer.


I am providing services for having their items on my website, advertising (marketing) the items, receiving money and helping customers with refunds (if any). My question is, am I will be liable for the GST only on the service fee that I kept or for the total sales price?

The responsibility will depend on if you’re operating as an electronic distribution platform (EDP) and if so, the agreement you have with the merchant (Seller).


The agreement will determine who will be responsible for GST. Your obligation may vary between each merchant.
