I am an Austrlian citizen living overseas. I am NOT a resident for tax purposes.

i am trying to set up a term deposit in Australia.

ALL the banks require me to be a permanent resident or citizen LIVING in Australia.

is there a way around this?

That is a bank issue - not a tax issue.

Thank you for replying.

i understand. that makes sense.

however i find it surprising that ALL the banks require residency. perhaps the banks are unaware that there is no tax issue here?

BTW, for the past 10 years or so, i have never had an issue with this! It is only NOW that they have added this requirement.
