Single, living with a friend during stay holding a SCV 444.

  • Do I need to apply for a TFN? I am only working for 4-6 weeks while in Australia and unsure if/how I apply?

Thanks

Hi @bella12345,

It's up to you if you want to apply for a TFN or not.

You don't need to have a TFN, but if you don't your employer will withhold the maxmium amount of tax from your payments. Which leaves you with less money at the end of the day.

You also won't be able to lodge a tax return online or use our online services.

It's also useful for being able to claim a payment of super you're entitled to when you leave Australia.

Applying for a TFN is free. If you do decide to apply for a TFN, we've got info on how to do so on our TFN article.
