Hello, I have an employee from Spain, on a Student Visa (500) and he has marked on his tax dec 'Foreign Resident'. I am assuming he is correct as I don' think its his first job here. But where I am struggling with is the Payroll Software does not have an option of 'Foreign Resident', without first marking him as a 'Horticulturist/Shearer.

The software provider keeps saying to ask ATO so I am checking first the the tax dec is completed correctly first, then go back to them about the software set-up.

Hiya @mills1979 👋

Foreign tax residents are pretty typical in payroll and are taxed at the rates specified in the regular tax tables.

These are reported in STP2 with Tax Treatment code of FFXXXX.

When you liaise with your DSP, tell them that you are talking about tax scale 3.
