I am looking at becoming a contract driver for a limousine company. They will pay me a percentage of the fares charged. They will provide me with a vehicle to use during the week. Do I need to register for an ABN as a sole trader or a business or just a contract driver AND do I need to register for GST? I am getting contradicting advice. Thank you

Hi @toshelly

Yes, when you provide taxi or limousine travel for passengers including ride-sourcing your required to be registered for GST regardless of the GST turnover the $75,000 does not apply.

To register for GST, you need an ABN.

If you have a look at our Registering for GST page, it will confirm your requirement to register.

The only time you wouldn't have the obligations would be, to work as an employee.
