I am a full time employee, and I have a novated lease that my employer does not pay running costs for; I am responsible for paying for all of the costs myself. I also have a sole trader business that I use the vehicle for to transport tooling to and from sites.

Am I able to claim vehicle expenses for the kilometres driven while using the vehicle for the sole trader business?

My take in your situation, if you don't own the vehicle, you would only be able to claim direct running expenses. (as you don't own it). That is cost of fuel and oil only. Not able to claim c/km method as that method includes all running and holding expenses of the vehicle.
