Hello,

I am a sole trader and I expect that in 2-3 months I may have to register for GST.

Having a look at the ATO website, I can see that I can submit my BAS via MyGov or my online business services, once registered.

I have just linked MyGovID with RAM. To register for GST, I see that I can phone 132866 or do it online through services for business. Where exactly is this feature in online services for business?

Are there any advantages of submitting my BAS through online services for business than through MyGov?

If for example, I register for GST on the 23th of February, will I have to report my BAS of January, February and March by the 28th of April?

Thanks for clarifying it.

Hi @beamartin,

That's right you can submit your BAS via MyGov or online business. Generally, for sole traders they would use their MyGov to register for GST and lodge BAS statements.

Business online is more for other type of entities such as companies but can be used by sole traders as well. The functionality to register and lodgment of BAS statements are completely the same. It's up to you which one you want to use.

To register via online business, it's under profile and then tax registrations.

If you register effective 23rd of February yes you will need to report your BAS of January, February and March by the 28th of April. By lodging online, you may be eligible for an extra two weeks to lodge and pay your quarterly BAS.

Refer to our due dates for lodging and paying your BAS.
