Hi l am 50 years old and on the disabilty pension as my only income and l currently pay no tax, if l were to get a part time job and earn money paid in addition to my disability pension and the employment income is under $18,200 would l continue to pay no tax
Hi @jimbo79
Government payments an allowances consist of taxable and tax-free payments and allowance.
With the disability pension this can be both depending on the recipient being at or over age pension age.
Good news 😊, if you’re under the age pension age (and at 50 years young you're well under) the disability pension is tax-free Government payment.
You’ll need to lodge a tax return and declare the amount of disability pension you receive along with any other income such as interest and wages so we can work if your eligible for tax offsets any government benefits or concessions.
So, if your wages and other income are under the tax-free threshold of $18,200 you would not pay tax and any tax withheld by an employer would generate a credit When your tax return has been assessed by us.
