Hi,

I need some information on my income tax rate.

I have spent the first half of the tax year on a WHV 417 and I am moving to a 482 TSS visa soon.

I have reached the second tax bracket of 32.5% on the WHV already this year. If I move to the 482 Visa, what rate of tax will I pay for the remainder of the year?

I am living in Australia over a year now, worked in the same job and live in the same place. Does this make me a resident for tax purposes, or will I pay foreign resident tax rates?

Any information would be appriciated.

Thank you

Hi @Gavin02

Sounds like you'll be a resident but we can't determine that for you. We have guidelines to help you work out your residency status. When you complete your tax return, you'll let us know if you're a resident or not even if it's for part of the year. Australian tax residents are eligible for the tax-free threshold which means the first $18,200 is tax-free. However, in this instance, since you earned this as a WHM the WHM rates should apply. The WHM rates will apply followed by the resident tax rates that you can view on our website.

Do you come from an NDA country? You can potentially be taxed at resident rates for all your income if you do and you work out you're a tax resident. Have a look at the info we have about WHM's from NDA countries.

Hello there,

So in this case, and provided this person is a Tax Resident throughout the whole financial year, whilst on a WHV, the WHV rates will apply and no tax-free threshold, correct?

Now, when this person changes to a 482 visa, the resident tax rates and tax-free threshold should apply, correct? But in which proportion would this tax-free threshold should be considered, in full or prorated?

Thanks.
