Hi, I submitted my return back on 01/07/2023 for the 2022-2023 period. The return has been sitting in reviewing since 03/07/2023 with no correspondence from the ato on why its taking so long. I have called the lodgment team 3 times now with the same response of "it has been assigned to a team you should get a call with in 2 weeks from a case manager", is anyone within this forum able to help provide me with some further assistance?

Hi @rvd4657,

I can only provide you with a general explanation as to why your return is being delayed. How long this process takes can vary a lot because it depends on the individual circumstances. So, we don't have a general timeframe we can provide.

When your tax return is in the under-review status. It means we are manually reviewing your tax return to make sure everything is right before we finalise it. This may include reviewing your prior year returns. We will contact you if we need more information.

There is also number of other reasons why your tax return may be delayed. Refer to our page called Check the progress of your tax return for more information.

We can only priority process your tax return if you're experiencing financial difficulties or serious hardship. If this is your case, please apply if eligible.

Hope you get an outcome on your tax return soon!

Hi Wendy, thanks for your reply. I’m just frustrated by the fact that everytime I call and ask they tell me I will be getting a caller within 2 weeks. Is there anyway I can escalate this case as I find it very hard to believe that they could be reviewing my return for almost 6 months and not once reached out to ask questions.
