Since the ATO have gone online with mygov I have discovered two overdue tax returns from when I was a teenager working for 2010/2012 and 2011/2012.

I was unaware I needed to lodge a tax return as I was working casually and then part time while in high school and was not earning above the tax threshold.

I do not have any information to lodge the overdue tax returns as I do not have any records from that time. I have attempted to call the ATO multiple times without being able to talk to anyone, it says it's a busy period and to try again later.

I have tried to get old bank statements but they do not go that far back online. I have tried to retrieve an old email address that was hacked that may have old payslips/group certificates but I have been unsuccessful. I have also tried to contact my old employer and have not had a response back - I am assuming they no longer have this information.

I have looked at previous similar questions and cannot find how to request copy of tax documents from this time and there are no details online from previous employer that I can use.

Unsure what to do next and how to resolve this.

Hi Michaelaqs,

Yes, even though you were working casually you may have had tax withheld from some of the payments you received.

You’ve done everything we would suggest like contacting the old employer or trying to locate your old payslips.

We may be able to provide you with the information that you need. As you’re aware we are experiencing high call volumes but if you continue trying someone will be able to help you.

Otherwise, you’ll need to lodge them to the best of your ability even if you can get your hands on an old payslip or even going through old bank statements.
