There have been a number of previous posts regarding this issue (e.g. https://community.ato.gov.au/s/question/a0J9s000000Q98d/p00214768), but the answer is still not clear.

We have provided Facebook with our ABN and have selected the checkbox confirming that "Yes, I am buying ads for business services."

However, Facebook/Meta advertising invoices do not show any GST paid.

A quote from Facebook business account "By providing your ABN, you are confirming that you are registered for GST and should not be charged GST. You will be charged GST if the ABN you provide is invalid or incomplete."

Why does Meta/Facebook not charge GST when you provide them with an ABN, but do when you don't provide one? Shouldn't it be the other way around?

Hi @asranje,

I can understand why you're asking the question.

It's right what Facebook are doing. If you're registered for GST and add your ABN to your Facebook account, Facebook shouldn't add GST to your purchase of Facebook ads.

We've got some relevant information over on our website - see GST on imported services and digital products that explains why.
