Hi,

I am currently on my offshore partner visa subclass 309. I've started a part-time job and need to provide my TFN for employment purposes. The employer's system asks for my residency status. Regarding the TFN system, is a partner visa subclass 309 considered an Australian resident or a foreign resident for tax purposes?

Hey @ssardari,

Being on a temporary visa doesn't necessarily mean that your partner is a foreign resident for tax purposes. They can be either an Australian tax resident or a foreign tax resident depending on their circumstances.

It's something that your partner is going to need to work out. You partner can do this by reading more about tax residency on our website.
