I am an overseas Dentist currently working as a Dental nurse in Australia. In order to be registered as a Dentist in Australia, I am undergoing examinations administered by the Australian Dental Council (ADC), approved by the Dental Board of Australia (DBA). Upon successful registration, my current position will be upgraded to a general dentist, resulting in an increase in my income.

I am wondering whether the fees associated with this registration (exam fees, textbooks, etc.) are tax-deductible under 'self-education expenses'

Can someone please advise on this?

Regards

I would suggest they aren't. Your current employment is as a dental nurse. Self education expenses can only be claimed on education related to your current employment activities. (i.e dental nursing)
