For various reasons I had a number of outstanding activity statement and tax return lodgements.I received penalties for some but not all of the activity statements, luckily no penalties for the tax returns. These penalties have now been paid in full.

I was told recently that the ATO may still choose to raise a penalty for non-lodgement of any activity statements and tax returns not yet penalised even though I have now lodged all of them. All statements and returns have now been assessed, all tax return monies have been paid to me or used against debt.

This is my question - can the ATO still raise a penalty for non-lodgement of activity statements or tax returns after I have lodged them and they've been assessed and the returns paid out?

I did some online research on the question but couldn't find the answer, hopefully the ATO Community can help, and save me a phone call to the ATO proper.

Please and Thank-you.
