Hi all,

I'm writing this question for someone else.

I should have been exempted from medicare levy as I am temporary resident. Looking at the notice of assessment of past years, I did not receive medicare levy refund which I feel I was entitled to and i alredy have medicare entitlement statement.

what are the methods available to do this?

Thanks in advance,

Tax returns have a yes/no question asking if you are in a Medicare exemption category. I would suggest if their NOA includes the Medicare levy, they likely didn't select 'yes' to this question.

Presuming they are in fact exempt, depending on how recently we are talking about, the simplest method to get a refund would probably be to lodge an amendment to the tax return for the relevant income year & select 'yes' to the Medicare exemption category.
