Hi,
I have been told by many people that when salary sacrificing, you pay less in tax throughout the financial year. However, I have also been told that when you have a HECS debt and you salary sacrifice, you should inform your payroll to take out extra tax to cover your hecs debt repayments. This I do not understand. I have just started salary sacrificing for the purpose of purchasing leave and have a HECS debt. How does this impact me? How are fringe benefits calculated? If I am asking my work to take more tax out while salary sacrificing, doesn't that just defeat the purpose of supposably paying less in tax when salary sacrificing?
