I am an international student here with no work restrictions (doctorate student). I have also registered myself in both TFN and ABN. Recently, I have been doing some random remote freelancing works like data annotation, copyediting, with the platforms like Remotasks, UpWork and similar. I get paid on my PayPal in USD. As far as I know and I have also verified with their terms of usage, any of such platform do not deduct from the amount we are paid with as tax or similar. How should I go further to declare it here in Australia? How and in what rate should I pay the tax here? Can I do it on my own or should I appoint an agent? Thanks in advance.

Hi @pepperoni 🍕

Do you know if you're an Australian resident for tax purposes? If so, you'll declare your world-wide income on your tax return. You'll need to convert the USD to AUD when you do this. Tax rates are also based on your tax residency status so you'll need to find that out first.

Depending on how much you're earning you may want to look into Pay as You Go (PAYG) instalments as a way of pre-paying your tax. We've got other options for managing paying your taxes on our website.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I am Australian resident for tax purpose, as I am living here for last 2 years for my study. I will go into these links as well. Thanks again.
