I am currently working here on a temporary 482 skills shortage visa for 4 years and I am in my first year. I would like to spend my maternity leave in the UK for 6 months, I am considered an Australian Citizen for tax purposes and intend to come back and continue my 3 years of my visa. My questions is do I need to inform my employer of this? Would this impact my tax that I would pay? And could my employer not allow me to go overseas whilst receiving maternity pay?

Hi @CHcgt1918,

As long you remain an Australian resident for tax purposes while out of the country. Your employer should continue to pay you the same as if you were in Australia.

We're unable advise if your employer has the right to not allow you to go overseas while on maternity leave. Any questions about maternity leave conditions best to chat with the Fair Work Ombudsman.
