I am a contractor to a private practice (psychology). I get 70% of what the client pays to the practice and the practice takes 30% for admin fees. The practice also takes 10% of that 30% for GST which means my total is reduced to 67%. I do not charge GST and majority of clients don't pay it for the private services as it is a health service. I have been advised that I would get the GST back at the end of the tax year.

I have no understanding of why or how this works. can anyone explain to me why the practice can take 3% out of my 70% for GST.

Hi @TristenHatch,

It sounds like the practice that you're contracting to may be registered for GST and they’re charging you GST on the fees. Did they advise that their fees would be GST inclusive or exclusive?

If you're not sure, it would be best to have a chat to them about the agreement you have with them.
